Dinosaur Birthday Preparations

Trying to put together a birthday party with a Dinosaur theme by someone who is not only not interested in Dinosaurs, but does not know anything about them, is not easy.  I am giving myself 2 months to get it together, go through a trial run, and then have the real thing.  So far I have dinosaur terrariums that I will make with the little kids.  These will have aquarium rocks on the bottom, peat moss, dirt and then some small plants and a plastic dinosaur.  I have the small glass terrariums already.  Picture this:

The kids will also each have a fabric dinosaur tail on their chair:

I have made dinosaur masks from foam that we will match with the tails to use in the photobooth.  Since my older daughter will probably have a few friends come to keep her busy, we are also having some regular photobooth props as well.  Not sure how that is all going to turn out yet but I am excited and I am hoping the kids have fun with the photobooth idea:

For food, I wanted to keep it as simple as possible since every year I spend days making food and hours getting it all set up and stress over it.  This year we are staying simple.  About the most difficult thing I am trying is the watermelon:

I also think I am going to go with cupcakes this year.  I had grandiose ideas of elaborate dinosaur cakes, but in all honestly, let's be real.  I picture this:

But I know I'll end up with something more like this, if I'm lucky:

So I will make cupcakes and stick dinosaurs in the top and let the kids use those small dinos as the dinos in their terrariums.

Wish me luck!!
